In her work, Prof. Ryberg focuses on major images and themes in Yūsuf Idrīs‘ works. After illustrating former contributations on this topic, she analyses four different themes.
Beside the childhood traumata and its consequences, the passed value system in the context of tradition and change are displayed. The image of Egypt covers the other two sections, in which the author surveys the country as literary landscape and its relationship to the Western world.
A list of Yūsuf Idrīs‘ works is also included.
Dr. Birgitta Ryberg was researcher at the OIB from 1982 to 1986. Her research interests focus on modern Arabic literature.
