This monograph is one of the first comprehensive analysis that examine the development of the Arabic theory of prosification and versification, meaning how poetical materials are utilized in prose and prose in poetry. For this purpose, the works of Ibn al-Athir (d.637/1239) and al-Nayramani (403/1012) are analyzed, one of the oldest existing manuscripts on theory and practice of Arabic prose and poetry. This piece of research serves as an important contribution for the field of research concerning intertextuality.
Amidu Sanni studied Arabic Language and Literature as well as Islamic Studies at the University of Ibadan. He completed his Ph.D. in 1998 at SOAS and since 1984 he has been a lecturer at the Lagos State University where he currently heads the Arabic program.
