This anthology includes a group of selected contributions presented at a panel for contemporary research on the Qur’an organized by the Orient Institute Beirut at the First World Congress of Middle Eastern Studies in 2002. Under the title “The question of a historico-critical text of the Qur'an”, this panel aimed at elaborating recent trends in Qur’anic study and to formulate new goals for its study in the future. Giving an overview of the current state of research as well as the research methods used in analyzing scriptures of revelation, this volume serves as a critical edition containing a historical commentary of the textual bases and an appeal to tackle Qur’anic study from various perspectives.
