Prof. Gerhard Endress was Professor for Arabic Studies and Islamic Studies at the Ruhr-University Bochum. His research areas focus on the philosophy and scientific history in the Arab-Islamic culture of the Middle Ages and Arabic philology.
In his work, Endress edits the segments of the Institutio theological of the Neoplatonian Proclus. These original segments have not survived, yet the translated segments into Arabic have survived which have been found in some manuscripts in the middle of the 20th century.
In doing so, Endress deals with the surviving texts phrases of Proclus Arabus and contextualizes the Arabic translation into the translation movement of the Arabic intellectual history.
