In his publication, Prof. Weintritt examines four medieval works, the Kitāb al-Ilmām by an-Nuwairī and three biographies of sultans. These works contain information about historical persons and events, but all of them contain a small amount of historical evidence. Especially the description of the Muslim enemies creates a devastating image of their power and success, whereas the Muslim rulers are glorified.

Prof. Otfried Weintritt is Professor at the University Bonn. His research interests focus on late medieval historiography.
