Heribert Busse contests the perecption of the Buyid period in Iraq as purely a period of general decline. On the contrary, he discovers in this period many new historical phenomena for the first time.
The book is divided into three parts. The first part consists of an overview of the political history of the era, with an emphasis on the Bedouin powers in the region. The second part is concerned with the state of administration and economy, whereas the third part is dedicated to the religious and cultural life of the period.
Hermann Busse was head of the Oriental Studies department at Christian-Albrechts-Universität in Kiel, Germany, from 1973 through 1991. His research concentrated on the inter-religious relations between Judaism, Christianity and Islam, as well as early Islamic history and Arab-Persian diplomacy. He is also the author of BTS 4: “Die Reise des ʿAbd al-Ġanī an-Nābulusī durch den Libanon”.
