This volume offers an extensive philological study of the reports (akhbār) featuring Khadīja bt. Khuwaylid (d. 3 B. H. /619 A. D.) in the Arabic Islamic sources of various genres. Those reports are relatively limited when compared with the abundant reports featuring other prominent Islamic figures such as Fāṭima (d. 11/632) or ʿĀʾisha (d. 58/687), or Abū Bakr (d. 13/634), or ʿAlī (d. 40/661). As the book examines the mentioned reports in detail, it shows that the latter are nuanced by the contexts of the different books that encompass them. Following a narratological literal approach, this book treats the collected reports as narrative units recurrently narrativized, conveyed, and employed in different plots, across Sīra, biographical dictionaries, Ḥadīth collections, Tafsīr compilations, and Adab literature.
