Anton M. Heinen deals with the Islamic cosmology written by as-Suyūṭī in his al-Hayʾa as-sanīya fī l-hayʾa as-sunnīya. In the first section of his work, Heinen examines the traditional Islamic cosmology beginning in the early Muslim community until its revival in the 15th and 16th century. This “religious astronomy” is a heritage from pre-Islamic times that was transmitted in the 8th and 9th century.
In the second section, Heinen provides the manuscripts of al-Hayʾa as-sanīya fī l-hayʾa as-sunnīya and its translation, concluding with a commentary on the text including bibliography and indices.
