The Book of Ǧawāhir Al-Akhbār Wa-Mulaḥ Al-Ashʿār, Gems of the Tales and Anecdotes of poetry, by al-Hasan Ibn Muhammad Ibn Abi Aqamah al-Yamani, the Judge who died about 480 AH, is on literary lectures and anecdotes.it is not limited to the aspect of literary tales only, but it contains theological, jurisprudential and linguistic issues.

The author divided his book into two parts, which included a hundred stories from the authentic transmission, including eloquent poetry; the book contains 429 poems and stanzas on his tales. The first part ends with the end by story number 63, while the second part lasts from the story number 64 to the story number 100. Then, he adds twenty popular aphorisms and proverbs. The author surveyed explanations of those the authors who preceded him, they differed in some issues as they did not agree on others, so he collected on what they differed, and he gave a full explanation for them. Moreover, these popular aphorisms and proverbs, contain poems like they are in the hundred, but these poems are not different the others in the first part except they contain aphorisms and proverbs.

He does not only narrate the tale, but he also mentions the different narrations, comments, explains, quotes, documents and tells.

The great literary and documentary value of this book is not only in being the first book written by authors of Yemen in this art, nor in the fact that it includes unknown texts in poetry and prose, but also the book attributes the tales as the connected transmission in the books of the prophet tradition, Hadith, or close to them.

Which makes it possible to verify its authenticity or weakness; this is few in literary books, with variety in the tales between the pre-Islamic, Islamic and Abbasid.  He tells some women’s tales and their poetry, as he focuses on prose as well as poetry, with some linguistic aspects in the tales. the author’s choices for the tales indicate to peculiarity of Yemeni literary writings at this age, these writings which are interesting in tales and stories of Ahl al-Bayt, the prophet's family, and their victory without being Shiites.
 

كتاب «جواهر الأخبار ومُلَح الأشعار» للقاضي الحسن بن محمد بن أبي عَقَامةَ اليمني (المتوفى نحو 480هـ) نوعٌ من كتب المحاضرات والأسمار، ولا يقتصر على جانب الأخبار الأدبية فقط، ففيه مسائل كلامية وفقهية ولغوية... إلى غير ذلك.
 

والمؤلّف قسّم كتابه إلى جزأين ضَمَّنَهما مئة خبر من جواهر الأخبار المُسندة الصحيحة، المشتملة على فصيح الأشعار، وتبلغ عدد المقطوعات الشعرية والقصائد التي ضمنها أخباره (429)، والجزء الأول ينتهي بنهاية الخبر الثالث والستّين، والثاني من الرَّابع والستين إلى المئة، ثم قفَّاه بعشرين (كلمة) هكذا سمَّاها، وهي عبارة عن مأثورات وأمثال تدور على الألسن كثيرًا، قد ذكر مَنْ سبقه لها تفسيرًا، إلّا أنهم اختلفوا في بعض ذلك ولم يتفقوا، فجمع هو منه ما فرَّقُوا، وحقّق في إيضاحه فوق ما حقَّقُوا، وفيها أيضًا أشعار لا تختلف عن الأخبار المئة، سوى أنّها تعتمد على المأثور أو المثل.
 

ولم يقف عند إيراد الأخبار فحسب بل كان أيضًا يذكر اختلاف الروايات -إن وجدت- ويعلّق ويفسّر ويستشهد ويؤصّل ويحكي.
 

والقيمة الأدبية والتوثيقية الكبيرة لهذا الكتاب ليست فقط في كونه أوّل كتاب وضعه أهل اليمن في هذا الفن، ولا في كونه يضم نصوصًا لم تكن معروفة من قبل شعرًا ونثرًا، وإنّما تتجلّى أيضًا في اهتمامه بإسناد الأخبار على نحو ما يكون في كتب الحديث أو قريبًا منها، ممّا يجعل الاستيثاق من صحّتها أو ضعفها ممكنًا، وهذا قليل في كتب الأدب، مع التنوّع في الأخبار ما بين الجاهلي والإسلامي والعباسي، وذكر بعض أخبار النساء وأشعارهنّ، والعناية بالنّثر إلى جانب الشعر، مع الإفادات اللغوية المبثوثة في ثنايا الأخبار، واختيارات المؤلّف للأخبار التي تشي بخصوصية الكتابات اليمنية الأدبية في هذا الوقت بالاهتمام بأخبار آل البيت والانتصار لهم دون تشيُّع.
