Al-Wāfī bi-l-Wafayāt
Ṣalāḥaddīn Ḫalīl b. Aibak aṣ-Ṣafādī
Ṣalāḥaddīn Ḫalīl b. Aibak aṣ-Ṣafādī (d. 764/1363) was a historian of Turkish descent best known for his al-Wāfī bi-l-Wafayāt, the largest biographical dictionary, which was edited in the Bibliotheca Islamica Series in 30 volumes, with two additional volumes of indices.
This is a new critical edition of the second volume of Ṣafadī’s al-Wāfī bi-l-wafayāt, covers entries from Muḥammad b. Ibrāhīm b. ʿUmar to Muḥammad b. al-Ḥusayn b. Muḥammad. On the basis of the first edition, which was published by Sven Dedering in 1949, this new revised edition by Muḥammad al-Ḥuğayrī makes use of additional manuscripts as well as some of Ṣafadī’s other writings. The result is not only a more accurate and readable text, but also an enlarged corpus of biographies and some completed with passages missing from the first edition.
هذه طبعةٌ جديدةٌ محقّقةٌ ومزيدةٌ للمجلّد الثاني من كتاب الوافي بالوفيات، الّذي يُعَدّ الموسوعة الكبرى للأعلام في الخزانة التراثيّة العربيّة، والمؤلّف هو العلّامة صلاح الدين خليل بن أيبك الصفديّ (ت 764هـ / 1363م) الّذي ترك لنا بكتابه هذا، وبسائر كتبه في التراجم كأعيان العصر وأمراء دمشق، ذخيرةً جعلت منه واحدًا من كبار مترجمي الأعلام في المكتبة التراثيّة العربيّة.
بعد مرور أكثر من نصف قرنٍ على صدور الطبعة الأولى بتحقيق الأستاذ سفين ديدرينغ، تصدر الطبعة الجديدة لهذا الجزء الّذي يضمّ طائفةً من المحمّدين (من محمّد بن إبراهيم بن عمر – إلى محمّد بن الحسين بن محمّدٍ) معتمدةً مخطوطتين جديدتين ساهمتا في إغناء النصّ وتنقيحه، مع الاستعانة -حيثما اقتضت الضرورة- بكتاب أعيان العصر للصفديّ، ما أدّى إلى إبراز مادّة الكتاب في صورةٍ أبهى حُلّةً وأكثر دقّةً وأيسر مَقرُوئيّةً، بعناية الأستاذ محمّد الحجيري.
