Al-Fawāʾid al-sanīyah fī al-riḥlah al-Madanīyah wa al –Rūmīyah by Quṭb al-Dīn Al-Nahrawālī (d. 990/ 1582) is a unique book in its content and story and has been long awaited to be seen in an edited publication. The present edition is based on one unique manuscript in Velieddin Efendi’s collection of Beyazit Umumi Kütüphanesi in Istanbul. This manuscript is the author's own draft of which he was unable to make a fair copy for public readership. This has rendered the task of the editor much more challenging requiring him to consult a significant historical, geographical and literary material to come up with the best of the present edition.
The book includes historical and literary material, chronicling some events in the Hijaz in the mid-tenth century/sixteenth century. The book also contains the author's many voyages that he made within the Hijaz region, as well as his trip to Istanbul as an envoy carrying a letter from the Sheriff of Mecca to Sultan Suleiman in which he complains about the Ottoman leader of Medina, Delü Piri. 
For Al-Nahrawālī, the book was so important that he used to take it with him on all his travels. In fact, he expressed sorrow and discomfort when he lost it, but luckily found it with the help of Bayezid, son of Sultan Suleiman. While the German Institute realized the value of this work publishing the author’s voyage to Istanbul in English in 2005 under the editorship of Richard Blackburn, it also recognizes the importance of introducing the complete work of Al-Nahrawālī to scholars and researchers.
 

هذا كتاب فريد في مادته وقصته، طال الانتظار لرؤيته في نشرة علمية مُحقَّقة، عنوانه: الفوائد السَّنِيَّة في الرحلة المدنيّة والرُّوميّة أو: تذكرة قطب الدين النهروالي (ت 990هـ/ 1582م)، وصلنا في نسخة فريدة تحتفظ بأصله الوحيد خزانة ولي الدين أفندي في مكتبة بايزيد العمومية، وهي عبارة عن مسودة المؤلف التي لم يعمل على تبييضها وإتاحتها لاطلاع الناس، بما زاد العبء على المحقق وألزمه باستشارة الكثير من المصادر التاريخية والجغرافية والأدبية لمراجعة النص ومحاولة معارضة مادته بها
يشتمل الكتاب على مادة تاريخية وأدبية متنوعة، أرَّخت لبعض الحوادث الكائنة في الحجاز منتصف القرن العاشر الهجري/ السادس عشر الميلادي، إضافة لرحلات المؤلف العديدة التي قام بها داخل إقليم الحجاز، وكذلك رحلته إلى اسطنبول كسفير يحمل رسالة من شريف مكة للسلطان سليمان القانوني تتعلق بالشكاية على قائد المدينة المنورة العثماني دلو بيري، بما يكشف عن جوانب من العلاقة بين أشراف الحجاز والسلطة العثمانية
 ولما كان الكتاب أثيرا ومهما عند مؤلفه، يصطحبه معه في تنقلاته وأسفاره كافة، وعبر عن أسفه وانزاعجه عندما أضاعه في طريق سفره إلى بلاد الروم ثم وجده بتدخل من السلطان بايزيد ابن السلطان سليمان؛ فقد أدرك المعهد الألماني أهمية الكتاب ولمس ضرورة توفيره للدارسين والباحثين، بعد أن كان المعهد قد نشر نص رحلة المؤلف إلى اسطنبول مترجمة إلى الإنجليزية عام 2005م باعتناء  الأستاذ ريتشارد بلاك بيرن
