Mahmood Makvand is an assistant professor in the department of Qur’anic studies at Khārazmi university, Tehran, Iran. His MA in linguistics allows him to research a range of subjects, including the etymology of Quranic words (with a focus on Semitic languages), semantic studies, the composition of the Qur’anic text, linguistic characteristics of the text, and the cultural and linguistic milieu of Arabia in the era of revelation. He is currently exploring the concept of the creation of woman in the Torah and in the Qur’an. More generally, Mahmood aims at showing the interaction and compatibility between the Qur’an and the Bible and the post-biblical writings.
