Visiting scholars who are staying in Lebanon for a limited period of time (ca. 3-12 months) in order to conduct field research for doctoral or postdoctoral studies related to the research agendas of the OIB may apply for research affiliation with the Orient-Institut Beirut for the duration of their stay. Affiliate status at the OIB is not connected to ‘material’ privileges like stipends, free office space, free guest rooms, computer equipment, free photocopies, insurance, technical assistance to obtain visas, residence permits, etc. Affiliate scholars may, however, use for free the OIB’s library and its equipment (including wireless internet access) during office hours, attend the institute’s internal colloquia and workshops and will be included in the OIB's mailing list. They are encouraged to present their research in the internal colloquium of the OIB and to participate in the intellectual life of the institute.
Applicants should email a letter of motivation specifying the duration of their stay in Lebanon; an outline of their research project (ca. 1-3 pages); and a CV to Dr. Alya Karame copying the director Prof. Dr. Jens-Peter Hanßen
Please apply before the three-yearly deadlines of 15 October (if you would like to come between November and February); 15 February (if you would like to come between March and June); and 15 June (if you would like to come between July and October). Please, note that the Institute will be closed between Christmas and New Year; the library will remain open during the summer but no events will take place between mid-July and early-September.
