Living in limbo

Based on biographical-narrative interviews, conversations, and participant observations, the project explores experiences and life worlds of the Lebanese war and post war generation, amongst others on the basis of actors with a family history of displacements and disappearances as well as Lebanese civil society activists engaged in this field. The project tells their stories and examines conceptions of the self and the other, constructions of collective identities (familial, confessional, gender), as well as breaks with those and ways of self-actualization, against the backdrop of subjective and objective violence (Zizek). It investigates how actors of different generations make sense of a past which is not dealt with, a present which doesn`t seem to belong to them and a homeland, which remains a place of alienation.
