This book offers a thorough insight into the Muslim-Christian dialogue, ideological orientations in present-day Turkey and social and cultural features of Turkish immigrant groups and organizations in Europe.
The contributions are organized in three sections. The first one is concerned with Muslim and Christian theological approaches to the practice of the cohabitation of religions and cooperation in Europe. The second part examines the varieties of self-understanding among Turkish Muslims and their and their perceptions of and attitudes towards Europe. Part three looks into the issue of the conditions and concerns of Turkish Muslims in European diaspora.
Günter Seufert is a German journalist and sociologist. He studied social pedagogy at the technical college of Würzburg, social sciences and German Studies at the University of Bremen, and obtained his Ph.D. in 1995. Since 2010, he has been working as a researcher for the “Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik (SWP)” in Berlin with a focus on Turkey and Cyprus.
Jean Jacques Waardenburg is a Dutch theologian and Islamic Scientist. He studied theology, phenomenology, and religious history at the University of Amsterdam, and Arabic and Islamic History in Leiden and Paris. He has taught at the Universities of Montreal, Los Angeles, Utrecht and Lausanne and received numerous honorary awards.
