Beginning with the first visits of Arab students to the European countries, the impression of these experiences found its place in the Modern Arabic Literature. Prof. Wielandt provides several descriptions of Europeans in their home countries, as well as foreigners in the Arab countries from the 19th century until the present. These include the first contacts of students with Europeans in France, but also the impact of colonialism in the 20th century, which had a major influence on the portrayal of European citizens in Modern Arabic literature.
Prof. Rotraud Wielandt was Professor for Islamic Studies and Arabic Philology at the University Bamberg. Her researches focus on Modern Arabic Literature.
