The Orient-Institut Beirut, a German academic research institute of the Max Weber Foundation – German Humanities Institutes Abroad seeks to employ

Publication assistant (f/m/d) 50%, 20.5 hours per week.

The position is to be filled at the earliest from 01.02.2023. The contract will initially be limited to one year and can be renewed annually. A probationary period lasts 6 months. The place of employment is Beirut.

Duties include:
Responsible for the technical production of the volumes BI and BTS with the following tasks:
Communicating with the printers, obtaining quotes, preparing a manuscript, requesting a cal-ligraphy for the cover design, requesting an ISBN number, creating the title page as a PDF, clarifying shipping and payment methods with the printers and publishers, adding the publica-tions to the Orient Institute Beirut website, creating and announcing via distribution lists, over-seeing the open access publications.
Furthermore, administration of the book deposits at the OIB as well as the organization and accounting of the house sales.

Your profile includes:

  • Very good written and oral expression in German or English and good knowledge of the other language and good reading ability in Arabic,
  • Interest in humanities topics in the context of Middle Eastern Studies or Islamic Studies and Arabic Studies,
  • first professional experiences in the field of editorial work, esp. text correction, preferably in a scientific context, education desired
  • Enjoy working independently, coordinating and communicating in an international environment,
  • Team spirit, flexibility and commitment to work.
