The lecture, is the first lecture of the OIB/COSIMENA Seminar series, and will be followed by a gathering in the garden.
Abstract
This lecture presents intersectional feminist perspectives on the concept of ‘history.’ It shows that history is the story of European white men about themselves and for themselves. Complex intersectional power relations determine whose stories are told and which remain untold. Another problem with history is its underlying understanding of time: it is based on a linear and monochronic coloniality of time that suppresses simultaneity and alternative concepts of time. Against these dominant and Eurocentric perceptions of history, I propose intersectional genealogies to uncover marginalised knowledge and focus on their stories instead of his story. I argue that a feminist approach to history should be intersectional and decolonial to decentre the Eurocentric and patriarchal concept of history.
