Johann Büssow (Orient-Institut Beirut) and Henning Sievert (University of Bonn)
July, 04 to July 05, 2013
This workshop aims to explore the potentials of the approaches of conceptual history (Begriffsgeschichte) and related approaches. As language is not merely an ornament attached to ‘real’ politics but very much at the centre of it, a study of pragmatics and key terms provides an access to the workings and changes of political practice. In a concentrated two-day effort, the workshop participants will discuss approaches, agendas and formats that might be possible to advance conceptual history and historical semantics in the Middle Eastern context. Outlines of a possible research project on the topic will be presented in a public forum on Friday, 5 July (10.00-12.00 am).
Kindly note that the working language of this workshop will be German, with the exception of the project presentation on 5 July, which is in English.
