This Colloquium introduces Lavinia Parsi's PhD research project, with a focus on the relevance of Lebanon as a multifaceted case study in the analysis of forced displacement policies under the lens of international criminal law (ICL). The research underscores the distinctiveness of ICL in targeting individual accountability for acts leading to mass atrocities, including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Lebanon’s unique position as a crossroad of various displaced communities provides a comprehensive backdrop for examining the application of ICL provisions. The research project aims to dissect the legal complexities and ambiguities surrounding legal norms on forced displacement, offering a legal interpretation of these provisions informed by the experiences and demands for justice as conceived by affected communities in Lebanon.
