Peter Blank is a PhD candidate and research assistant in Middle Eastern studies at Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, Germany. His doctoral thesis examines the transformation of patron-client relations after the Lebanese civil war, analyzing the relationship between the Lebanese elite and political parties. It investigates three case studies, armed groups of the war period - the Amal Movement, the Lebanese Forces and the Progressive Socialist Party - turned into political parties after the Ta‘if agreement. The research explores the structural changes of these groups and the evolving nature of exchanged capital between three different levels of analysis - elite, mid-level and followers. Peter holds a Master‘s degree in Political Science and Islamic Studies from the University of Jena.
