Elena Şahin joined the OIB in October 2013 as a research assistant to collaborate on the preparation of a critical edition of Maḥmūd al-Kāshgharī’s "Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk". She holds a BA degree in Oriental Studies (Erlangen, Germany) and an MA in Islamic Studies (SOAS, UK). She is a PhD candidate in Islamwissenschaft at the Martin-Luther University Halle, Germany, and her research project builds on a comprehensive study of Ibn al-Azraq’s political treatise "Badāʾiʿ al-Silk fī Ṭabāʾiʿ al-Mulk".
Apart from the history of Islamic political thought, Elena’s research interests include Islamic theology, philosophy, and law. She also conducts research on the history of Christian-Muslim relations in the Levant.
